The idea of this work came when I first saw the door of Rohith Vemula’s room. On the door there was a quote 'Hurt not others with that which pains you'. Hostels are spaces that form students’ ideologies through graffiti and posters. The images and words on Rohith’s door were much more than representation of ideas. They were words of self-realization which marked his fight with the fundamental forces within the university spaces.  Although he chose death to give meaning to his struggles, his life is a brave example to understand this world.

Kartikey Singh was born in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He graduated in painting from Jamia Milia University, New Delhi and is currently pursuing Masters in Visual Arts from Ambedkar University, New Delhi.
